An outstanding USBC Open Championships competitor, Stefanich has won seven eagles, one short of the record. In USBC Masters play, he has finished in third place three times and fifth once. Stefanich also had a fine international career as a non-professional, being a member of the U.S. teams in the 1963 and 1964 FIQ competitions and winning four gold medals. As a professional he has won 13 PBA titles, including the 1967 Tournament of Champions.

Stefanich is best known for his 300 game in the 1974 Midas Open, just the third on live national television.

He was named Sporting News PBA Player of the Year and Bowling Writers Association of America Bowler of the Year in 1968 when he earned more than $67,000 and six titles, including the BPAA All-Star. Ranked 27th on the list of greatest players in PBA history in 2009.
